SpringBirds' Le Essor
SpringBirds' Le Essor is an exploration of colours alongside the art of Origami.
My inspiration was drawn from two main subjects – the Season of Spring and Origami Deconstruction. Spring brings about a fresh breath of life and freedom– a myriad of blooming life. like how birds take flight in the warm skies after enduring the cold winter. Living creatures such as birds, floral and fauna were represented in my style by watercolor illustrations, forming the basis of my print. I used a repeated pattern as my choice of print in order to highlight the harmony of the colours.
Japanese origami has always been a favourite childhood hobby of mine. However, this specific craft usually drew attention to the finished product. This time around, I was intrigued by the inner markings of the(ir) construction, the inner bodice. A total of 6 origami pieces were chosen for the experimentation. Namely, the Kusama ( a 5 petal traditional flower), the Humming Bird, the Swallowtail Butterfly, the Crane, the Swimsuit and the Large Ears Rabbit.
The convergence of lines provided the perfect added edge to the outlook of the collection. For the silhouette, it was also influenced by the out-folds of the Japanese Craft.
With the visual softness of my watercolour illustrations, the deconstructed lines create a contrasting effect that cuts through nicely across. This results in a collection parallel to my vision of feminism with edge.
